How the fuel cost calculator works

Litres required = distance ÷ fuel efficiency (km per litre).

Total cost = litres required × price per litre.

Worked example: 450 km trip, 18 km/l efficiency, price 105 per litre

  1. Litres = 450 ÷ 18 = 25 litres.
  2. Cost = 25 × 105 = 2,625.

Common mistakes to avoid

Using a manufacturer's rated fuel efficiency instead of real-world figures

Official efficiency ratings are typically measured under ideal test conditions — real-world driving (traffic, air conditioning, terrain, driving style) usually returns noticeably worse efficiency than the rated figure.

Forgetting the round trip

If the distance entered is one-way but the actual trip is a round trip, the true fuel cost is double this calculation's result — always confirm whether 'distance' means one-way or return.
